Ruritanian

Of, relating to, or having the characteristics of an imaginary place of high romance: Upon arriving in NYC, the newlyweds went right to Central Park's Belvedere Castle; the most Ruritanian of places in the city.

Belvedere Castle is one of my favorite spots in Central Park. Part nature observatory, part National Weather Service information center, I just learned that the castle was built as a "fantasy structure." I'm not sure why, but I always believed that when it was constructed, Belvedere did actually serve as a castle. I guess that's my idealistic view of NYC in the old days. But seeing that it was built as a "fantasy structure," I guess that makes it an even more Ruritanian place, right?

I've joined Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day email. Looking forward to all the fun that may bring. Or, less fun, and more vocabulary enhancement? And who knows what else I might throw up here.
